South Tyrol – Hut tour
Family Hiking Trip
We hike on secluded, easily accessible paths high above the Eisack Valley – away from the tourist resorts of South Tyrol. Even higher altitudes can be easily reached with little effort. We hike across alpine pastures where herds of cows, goats and Haflinger horses spend the summer months on deserted paths, accompanied only by the sound of animals, the buzzing of insects, the gurgling of mountain streams and the occasional call of a bird of prey.
The children dam streams, jump into ice-cold lakes, look for trail markings, stroke Haflinger horses and cows, watch grasshoppers and frogs, dragonflies …, learn to read maps.
While walking, we sing lots of songs, rhyme and make up stories. The tour guide also knows lots of games.
Hut life is full of children’s delights: mattress dormitories or bunk beds. Each family has its own bedroom due to the coronavirus.
There is space for fun and games around the huts with nearby lakes and wide meadows.
Once we get up before breakfast and hike up a mountain with flashlights (300 m ascent to 2,600 m above sea level) to await the sunrise. Up here, the whole world really is at our feet!
During this trip, we will enjoy the vastness of the landscape and the closeness of the sky. Far away from civilization, we leave everyday life far behind us.
Parents and children can relax in equal measure. There are two tour guides so that the program can be adapted to suit different hiking needs and abilities. Summit conquerors also get their money’s worth.
Due to the coronavirus, we will keep our distance and wear masks indoors. We will eat at family tables.
Itinerary:
We spend the first night in a guesthouse. Here, at 1000 m above sea level, we settle in comfortably on the first day to get used to the thinner air. In our “valley village” we can also buy provisions for the hut tour.
Take a cab to a parking lot at 1,900 m above sea level and hike from here to the first hut – without luggage. This is transported to the first hut.
We now spend six days on the heights – in three different huts. The daily hiking time is a minimum of three and a maximum of five hours. The Hiking Trip ends on day 7 at around 14:30 in Latzfons. I can book an additional overnight stay on request.
In culinary terms, we take a foray into the rustic, hearty, child-friendly South Tyrolean cuisine: dumplings, bacon, fried potatoes, pasta pans, wonderfully spiced bread (mostly home-baked in the huts!), fresh yoghurt, curd cheese, cheese, Schmarren and – not to forget: strudel! We drink buttermilk, elderflower juice and the older ones delicious cappuccino and Swiss stone pine.
