Piedmont
Mountain hiking and divine dining
The Valle Maira in Piedmont is a lonely valley in Occitania. Three languages are spoken here: Occitan, Piedmontese and Italian. Almost all of the locals also speak French.
We hike from posto tappa to posto tappa and walk for up to six hours a day. We do have to walk uphill for longer stretches every now and then. Grandiose views and an incredibly diverse mountain flora will delight all nature lovers.
We start the journey in Dronero and then slowly “work” our way up. From time to time we also spend two nights in a guesthouse. This gives us time to visit a cheese dairy or a wig museum and also to conquer a 3,000-metre peak.
We travel a few distances by cab.
Our luggage will be transported (one piece per guest – 15 kg). We only need to carry the daypack.
I chose the routes not only for the beauty of the paths, but also for the destination: the Valle Maira is a culinary destination. So this journey is also a journey for the palate. Bacchus also felt very much at home in this valley …
